It supports a modular architecture that allows configuration as a next-generation SONET multiplexer supporting OC-3, OC-12, OC-48, Ethernet, DS1, DS1 network interface unit (NIU), DS3, and DS3 Transmux interfaces. The FLASHWAVE 4100 extension shelf can transport telephony traffic and data traffic over a common fiber network.
